Least Tern

The Least Tern is classified as endangered in the interior and western part of the United States. During the 1800s the Least Tern was considered the perfect size to adorn a ladies' hat. Today, habitat destruction is the greatest threat. You can readily find Least Terns at Wakodahatchee from April to June.

Least Bittern (female)

A pair of Least Bitterns is currently building a nest in one of the Bullrushes near the entrance to the Wakodahatchee boardwalk. This bird is usually very secretive and difficult to find. Wakodahatchee is one of the few places where you can readily observe them nesting from April to June.
